The Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Sugar Mills Association Ltd., Lucknow, was established in 1963 as the apex cooperative organization. Its primary objective is to strengthen the social and economic well-being of the state's sugarcane farmers, while providing appropriate guidance to cooperative sugar mills. The Association's objectives are to provide technical guidance for the effective operation of cooperative sugar mills and distilleries, to modernize and expand their capacity, to develop acreage under high-yielding and high-sugar sugarcane, to guide implementation of schemes, and to provide guidance and advice on financial, managerial, and marketing of products and by-products. Twenty-four cooperative sugar mills are successfully operating in various districts of the state. The cooperative sugar mills have a daily crushing capacity of 66,625 tons of sugarcane per day. A total of 9 distilleries are established, with a total alcohol production capacity of 2,50,000 litres per day and ethanol production capacity of 1,90,000 litres per day.
